If you’ve lived in Chico for any length of time, there’s a good chance you’ve walked through the doors of the Chico Women’s Club.
Maybe it was a wedding, a concert, a dance class, a community meeting, a fundraiser, or a creative gathering. This historic space has been part of Chico’s story for over a century — a place where people come together to celebrate, create, and connect.
For nearly 113 years, the Chico Women’s Club has served as a community gathering place rooted in creativity, civic engagement, and connection. And like any space that’s been well-loved for generations, it requires ongoing care to keep it thriving.
Caring for a space that cares for the community
Behind the scenes, the Board of Trustees works to preserve and maintain the clubhouse so it can continue to serve Chico for generations to come.
This work is ongoing — and essential.
Historic buildings don’t take care of themselves. They require consistent maintenance, repairs, and periodic upgrades to remain safe, functional, and welcoming for the community.
In 2025, the Club completed a major investment in the space: replacing the original wood floors after more than 90 years of use. That project alone cost $27,000.
And like any well-used gathering place, maintenance doesn’t stop there. Floors are refinished, systems are maintained, and the space is continually cared for so it can keep showing up for the community.
This is what it takes to sustain a place like this — not just once, but year after year.
