A HEART GREATER THAN FEAR
2:00-5:00 PM A HEART GREATER THAN FEAR, an original, local, one-woman performance. Suffragist and woman´s rights pioneer, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, will return to The Chico Women´s Club, performed by Rosemary Quinn, to continue to stir good women and men to rebellion.
This is to help keep Bidwell Mansion open! (A partial benefit)
The 19th Amendment granting all American women the right to vote was written on Stanton´s dining table more than forty years before passage. Stanton (mother of seven) and Quaker school teacher, Susan B. Anthony, worked together for more than fifty years.
With the League of Women Voters celebrating California´s Centennial as the Sixth Suffrage State, Quinn performing as Stanton will continue her free local appearances at the Gold Nugget Museum in Paradise, January 13, 3pm before heading to Gridley, Chico State and Butte College.
Durham 7th graders recommend the program. "I felt I was whisked back into history. She fascinated me because she started something nobody thought would ever happen." "I enjoyed your reenactment. For the first few minutes I thought that you really were Elizabeth Stanton. (Until I did the math.)"
Quinn, an avid historian and new resident of Durham, vividly recalls the long struggle for equal rights through the life of one irrepressible woman. Researched, written and performed by Quinn, an honors graduate of UC Davis and recipient of an Arts grant from the City of Chico in 2007, the project is five years in the making.
Admission at the door is $6.00-$10.00 sliding scale.
A portion of the proceeds will help keep the Bidwell Mansion open, which hosted Susan B. Anthony in 1905.
